i like canada. i spent my 19th birthday in canada... well, barely. niagara falls. that counts though, right? i know my share of canadians and i adore them all. what is it with canadians? at least the ones i know... they're creative, stylish, funny, easy going...

and i like barenaked ladies too. the band, of course. and isn't coldplay from canada?

the jefferies. they're canadians. and i adore them too. they had themselves a glorious, kid-free vacation here in hawaii this summer, and i had the pleasure of following them around for an afternoon doing my click click thing here and there.

 

from laie to hale'iwa

have you been to oahu?

it's a nice little place. to me it's a dr. jekyll and mr. hyde of sorts. well, except dr. jekyll isn't evil and sinister. or was it mr. hyde that was evil and sinister?? it's been a while since high school lit. class.

where was i? oh yes, oahu. so the north end of oahu, cleverly named north shore, is country. like rooster-crowing-at-the-crack-of-dawn country (and all other times of the day, for that matter). everyone owns a dog. there's one road, and maybe 5 stoplights... ok i'm exaggerating. there are 2 stoplights.

and then there's town: honolulu. waikiki. street performers. night life. clubs. concerts. shows. bling bling.

oahu is town and country.

i live in the country. i love the country. and for two days the bobiks and i explored the country portion, from the quaint college town of laie to the historic surfer town of hale'iwa. we stopped at all the spots that were near and dear to the hearts... and stomachs. (ted's, hukilau, hale'iwa eats, kava roots, cholo's... is your mouth watering??)

they even treated me to my first ever burger from ted's. i only loved him for his carrot cake and chocolate haupia pie. now our relationship is even stronger, ted and i.

and for the bobiks, here's your adieu to oahu...

by the way, the miracle of the day is me narrowing this down to less than 5 dozen shots to show y'all.

for christmas mrs. bobik surprised mr. bobik with a hawaiian vacation.

(seriously, can you imagine unwrapping that gift!)

so they flew alltheway from oklahoma and spent a week at turtle bay.

i've gotta say this was definitely one of THE funnest (most fun...) shoots EVER.

the hydes:

matthew, not matt, and jessica. just 'jess' is fine.

she's in school. he's working.

they're awesome with kids (like the 2 of mine which just might have been tagging along on the shoot... okay, so they were.) and can rock a movie marathon with the best of 'em.

i was so pumped for this shoot!! we were granted access to the abandoned sugar mills at kualoa ranch through the laie photo club. and it had just rained, so it was fresh and clean and gorgeous!

it was way fun getting to know these wonderful, gorgeous people! they even gave me an almond snickers and banana lumpia, so basically we're bff.
